Bush Adviser Encourages Hacking
According to the AP, "a presidential advisor encouraged the nation's top computer security professionals and hackers...to try to break computer programs, but said they might need protection from the legal wrath of software makers." In a related development, the director of the FBI encouraged criminals to break into private homes in order to test security, though he conceded they may need protection from the legal wrath of homeowners. Ok, I'm being facetious, but really, in this age of insecurity, is it prudent to encourage hackers to attack our information infrastructure? Is it appropriate for an advisor to the president to encourage criminal activity, or is hacking now legal?

Dear X10,
It has come to my attention that you have been placing your pop-under advertising on my computer for some time. You may not realize this, as it is a difficult concept to grasp, but my computer actually belongs to me, I bought it and even have the receipt to prove it. It's desktop and system resources all belong to me. Enclosed, you will find an invoice for your use of my property. Due to obvious demand for this prime real estate I will soon be introducing new ad rates and encourage you to work with me to build a mutually beneficial business relationship. You may also be interested in advertising in my front yard and even on the side of my house. Please contact me for terms for this very special offer. Thanks again for your business.

Nato 'must bridge gaps' among members
I have a bone to pick with the BBC editors. I'm not really sure where this "bone to pick" expression came from, but the fact remains that NATO is properly capitalized as the abbreviation for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. You may have heard of it, it's the most powerful military alliance on the planet.

Russia Says Leaky Torpedo Sank Kursk
I love a good mystery. Who killed Jon Benet Ramsey? Will O.J. ever find the Real Killer? And now the mystery of the Kursk has been solved. It turns out that the Russian nuclear submarine was not the victim of a NATO conspiracy or a WWII mine, but rather, it was leaking torpedo propellant that caused the explosion that sank the Kursk. Leaking propellant is not quite as glamorous as other more exotic explanations, but it certainly makes for a convincing end to this story. It think it is worth noting only because the start of a mystery is usually surrounded by the glare of the media spotlight, but the resolution of a mystery seldom is.
