The Aftermath
It appears now that the shuttle explosion was caused by loss of heat tiles, at least that is the informed speculation. I am saddened that my first thought was that this was an act of terrorism. From what I can tell, a lot of people also thought that was the case. A sign of the times, I suppose. I have been an advocate of space exploration for some time now, a semi-regular member of the Planetary Society (when I remember to renew my membership, which has currently lapsed) and sincerely hope that this disaster will serve to renew our national resolve to explore space, to honor the memory of our fallen astronauts with new adventures on the high frontier.
