Iraqis Celebrate As U.S. Takes Baghdad
I wonder if it is too early to declare Victory over Saddam Day? VS Day does not quite have the ring that VJ Day or VE Day does, perhaps we should go for VI Day? At any rate, we are seeing more reports of Iraqi citizens celebrating the fall of Saddam, and I'd like to call your attention to one report in particular, an AP report that noted, “Iraqis cheered U.S. troops and celebrated what they saw as the end of Saddam's rule… Women and children gave flowers to the Americans.” I think this is noteworthy, since the idea of Iraqis greeting American troops with flowers was ridiculed by both Saddam loyalists and anti-war protestors just weeks ago.
